together with peter and helen i went for another tourist's "must see": peterhof, the former zar's residency right at the baltic see, about 30 km southwest of piter, known as the "russian versaille". stunning, indeed. just don't ask me why they covered all the sculptures in gold. they've overdone it a wee bit, i'd say.
the whole ensemble reminded me of the work of a group of russian artists called AES+F. they are most know for their megalomaniac video works, and in addition to that they exhibit these golden child creatures. i have sort of a suspition where they got their inspiration from - you could probably call it historical continuity.
